Artist Biography
Born in Bethal in 1944, Danie de Wet obtained the following qualifications at the Pretoria Technikon*: National Diploma in Higher Art Education (1966) and a National Higher Diploma in Painting (1985). In 1973 he also studied at the University if Newcastle-upon-Tyne and at the Akademie der Bildende Künste, München. In 1993 he obtained a B.A. (Fine Arts) in painting at UNISA.
Among others, Danie has taught and lectured at the following institutions: Pretoria College for Advanced Technical Education (1967 – 1969) and the Pro Arte School (1969 – 1972). He has been lecturing at the Pretoria Technikon* since 1980, having held the following positions: Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in Painting and Drawing. He is currently also the Head of Foundation Studies in the Department of Fine and Applied Arts.
He frequently acted as moderator at other institutions, such as at the Vaal Triangle Technikon and the University of Pretoria. He is also frequently invited to adjudicate at various art competitions, such as the Sasol New Signatures and the Absa Atelier competitions.
Danie de Wet has held two solo exhibitions and has participated in numerous national and international group exhibitions. In addition to private collections, he also has work in the Absa and Sasol collections.
His Life Odyssey series highlights certain glimpses of a perceived journey through life.

University Entrance Matriculation Certificate (First Class).
Obtained: 1962 at Hoogenhout Hoërskool,
Bethal, Transvaal.
National Diploma in Commercial Art. Obtained: 1965 at the Pretoria Technical College
National Art Education Diploma. Obtained: 1966 at the Pretoria Technical College.
National Higher Diploma (Painting). Obtained: 1985 at the Pretoria Technikon.
BA (Fine Arts) (Painting). Obtained: 1993 at the University of South Africa.
Experience
Lecturer: Pretoria College for Advanced Technical Education.
Taught, on a part-time basis, basic art subjects to Std 9 and 10: Jan 1967 - Dec 1969.
Teacher: Pretoria School For Art, Music and Ballet (at present called Pro Arte"):
Taught drawing, painting and design to Stds 6 - 10 on a full-time basis: 1969 - Oct 1972.
Student: University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne:Studied painting up to May 1973.
Student: Akademie der Bildende Kunste: May - Oct 1973.
Travelled around Europe and Greece from Oct 1973 to 31 Jan 1974.
Did children's book illustrations in Welkom up to Dec 1975 (no illustrations were published).
Taught at a private art school: Art Studios Pretoria (ASP) for the first months of 1976.
Worked with Leo Theron in his studio during 1975/76.
Also during this period commenced part-time teaching at the Pretoria Technikon, holding a temporary post.
Lecturer: 1980: Appointed in a permanent capacity to a lecturer's post at the Pretoria Technikon.
April 1989: Appointed as a senior lecturer (Painting) at the Pretoria Technikon.
1994: Appointed Administrator of Foundation Studies. Responsible for all selection and administration of marks and promotions.
