Diek Grobler is a  multi-disciplinary artist with a career spanning 38 years. Starting out as a sculptor in the late eighties Grobler’s creative output included performance art, painting in various media, and scraperboard drawing. Over the last decade his creative focus has shifted largely to animated film: His films for children received awards at international festivals like KROK in Russia (2009), Hiroshima (2018), Tindirindis in Lithuania (2009) and Teheran (2009). His personal work has focused on animated poetry-film and in 2014 and 2016 he conceptualised and produced a poetry-film project called Filmverse; a series of 24 short animation films by 24 artists, inspired by Afrikaans poetry. Diek Grobler holds a PhD in Art from the University of South Africa, and is an independent researcher on Poetry-film, experimental animation processes and pin-screen animation. He also works as a MA degree supervisor at the Open Window University, Zambia.
